Privacy policy

Effective 5 November 2026

Zig is made by Niels Brink, trading as Lukie Labs, a private developer in Sweden. Niels Brink is the controller for your personal data. Questions or requests: hello@lukie-labs.com.

In short

  • You don’t need an account. Without signing in, everything stays on your device, except a push token if you want news from Zig.
  • If you sign in with Game Center or Google Play Games, we store your player id, display name and progress for the daily leaderboard, streaks and sync.
  • We only collect usage statistics if you say yes. You can change your mind any time.
  • Without Zig+ you see an ad between some puzzles, from Google AdMob. In the EU and UK ads are only personalised if you agree; we don’t sell data or track you across other apps.
  • You can delete your data in the app: Settings → Privacy → “Delete my data”.

Playing without signing in

Your progress, statistics and settings stay on your device. Puzzles come from a content delivery network (CDN). No personal data is sent with them, but as with any web request, your IP address appears in the server logs of our hosting provider ([HOSTING]).

Signing in

You can sign in with Game Center (iOS) or Google Play Games (Android). We never ask for an email address or password. When you sign in, we store:

  • your platform player id
  • your display name from the platform
  • your app language
  • a login token for the app

Sign-in itself is handled by Apple or Google, under your account with them and their own privacy terms.

What we store when you are signed in

  • Progress per puzzle, synced between your devices.
  • Daily puzzle starts and results: the time (measured by our server) and the hints you used. Results are shown on the public leaderboard with your display name. Unrealistic times are flagged and hidden.
  • Streaks per puzzle language, including Zig+ streak freezes.
  • Purchases: whether you have Zig+ or bought single puzzle books.
  • Invites: your invite code, and which player’s code you entered (or who entered yours), so both of you get your free week of Zig+. Nobody else sees this.

Purchases

You pay through the App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details. RevenueCat processes purchase receipts on our behalf so the app knows what you have bought. RevenueCat receives your player id, not your name or email.

RevenueCat is based in the United States. Transfers to the US take place under the safeguards the GDPR requires.

Crash reporting

When the app or our server runs into an error, a crash report is sent to Sentry. It contains the error, the screens you visited just before it, your device type, operating system and app version. If you are signed in, your player id is attached. Your name and IP address are not stored. We do this out of a legitimate interest in keeping the app working.

Crash reports are stored in the EU (Frankfurt) and kept for a limited time, at most 90 days.

Usage statistics (only with your consent)

After the introduction, the app asks whether you want to help make Zig better. Only if you say yes do we send usage statistics to PostHog Cloud EU. You can switch this on or off any time in Settings → Privacy → “Help improve Zig”.

What we send:

  • which screens you open
  • puzzles started, solved or abandoned, with kind, size, level and language
  • counts of moves and hints, and the time in rough ranges
  • when the Zig+ offer is shown, and purchases started or completed

We never send names, email addresses or which puzzle you played. IP addresses are discarded. If you are signed in, your player id is attached. If you say no, nothing is sent.

Ads (without Zig+)

Players without Zig+ see a full-screen ad now and then between two puzzles, never during a puzzle and never around the daily puzzle. The ads come from Google AdMob. Before any ad, Google’s consent form asks whether ads may be personalised (in the EU and UK). If you say no, you only see non-personalised ads, chosen by things like the app and your rough location. Outside the EU and UK, Google may personalise ads on Android without asking; you can stop that in your device’s settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads → delete or reset your advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalisation). Google receives your device’s IP address and device information to show and count ads, and, with your consent, an advertising identifier. On iPhone and iPad we don’t ask for permission to track you, so ads there are not based on your activity in other apps. You can change your choice any time in Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy choices. Google’s privacy policy applies to what Google does with this: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads. With Zig+ you see no ads at all.

Reminders

If you allow notifications, Zig reminds you in the evening when you haven’t played today’s puzzle yet, and when your streak is at risk. These reminders are scheduled on your device; nothing about them is sent to us or anyone else. You can change the times or switch them off in Settings → Notifications, or turn notifications off in your device’s settings.

News from Zig

If you allow notifications, Zig can tell you when new puzzle books come out in your puzzle language, and send you other news about the game, such as a new feature. We don’t use these messages for ads or offers. For that your device gives us a push token: an address for sending messages to this app on this device. We store the token with your device type (iOS or Android), the language of the app and of your puzzles, and whether you want news. If you are signed in, we also link it to your player id. The messages go through Expo’s push service, which passes them on to Apple or Google to deliver; they receive the token and the message, not your name or email. You can switch these messages off in Settings → Notifications, or turn notifications off in your device’s settings.

Expo is based in the United States. Transfers to the US take place under the safeguards the GDPR requires.

Why we may use your data

  • Sign-in features, sync, leaderboard, streaks and purchases: to provide the game you asked for (performance of our agreement with you).
  • Crash reporting, server logs and hiding unfair results: our legitimate interest in a working, fair game.
  • Usage statistics: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • News from Zig: your consent, given by allowing notifications and the “News from Zig” switch, which you can turn off at any time.
  • Ads: non-personalised ads to fund the free game (our legitimate interest); in the EU and UK personalised ads only with your consent.

How long we keep data

  • On your device: until you remove the app.
  • On our server: until you delete it. We may remove the data of accounts that have been inactive for 24 months.
  • Crash reports: a limited time, at most 90 days.
  • Usage statistics already sent: until you ask us to delete them.
  • Push tokens: until the token stops working or your device hasn’t opened Zig for 12 months, or until you delete your data when signed in.

Deleting your data

When signed in, go to Settings → Privacy → “Delete my data”. This immediately deletes everything on our server: your player record, progress, results, streaks, purchase records, login tokens and the push tokens linked to you. It also removes you at our purchase processor. Your purchases themselves stay with Apple or Google, so you can restore them later.

To delete usage statistics that were already sent, email hello@lukie-labs.com.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your data, to object to its use, to withdraw your consent and to receive your data in a portable format. Email hello@lukie-labs.com to use these rights.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection, IMY, or to the data protection authority of the EU country where you live.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell your data, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites. Ads are only shown to players without Zig+, as described above.

Children

Zig is suitable for everyone. We don’t ask anyone for personal data. Signing in uses your Game Center or Google Play Games account, which falls under Apple’s or Google’s own rules, including their rules for children.

Changes

If we change this policy, we update this page and the effective date. Important changes are announced in the app.
